Rest is more than a physical need or spiritual discipline...it is a challenge to the consumer capitalism that controls us and those around us.
I recall the words of a Rabbi speaking about the Sabbath--"Your rest must not be at the expense of others' labour."
I hold the tension of knowing all, including myself, need rest AND that the white generational wealth that has allowed some of my rest is built on wealth hoarding and the unpaid labour of others.
True Shalom will be when all are able to choose to rest and work according to their wants, needs and abilities.
