“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed, To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18-19
When I first started the Wednesday Words, it was about the need to decolonize from the aspects of faith that are more white Christian supremacy than God. And while I know that work is not yet done in me, nor probably in others, I feel an important aspect is to also be embracing a faith of liberation, justice, and love.
It cannot, and should not, be defined solely on being the opposite of what was wrong. We know Jesus came to set the oppressed free.
What does that look like? What work needs to be done? What does a world where everyone flourishes include?
I don't always know...or really maybe ever?...but that is why I am so eager to follow those with imagination who are rooted in love, justice, and liberation.
But I do believe, deep in my core, that liberation comes in the work of liberation. We are Marching on to Freedom. Come with us
